Marble dining table design by Carlo Scarpa for Cattelan,1970 Italy.
An iconic table designed by legendary architect and designer Carlo Scarpa for Cattelan Italia in the 1960s. This particular table has a later production date sometime in the late 1970s or early 1980s. The leg bases are made of a marble called Black Madagascar. The top is an oval glass top. It is in very good condition. Carlo Scarpa (born June 2, 1906, Venice, Italy - died Nov. 28, 1978, Sendai, Japan) was an Italian designer and architect influenced by materials, landscape, Venetian and Japanese culture and modernism. He converted his knowledge and interest in history, regionalism and craftsmanship into ingenious glass and furniture designs; and his architecture reflects a deep awareness of the steep traces of history, and a masterful attention to detail and integration of ancient crafts within a distinctly modern aesthetic.
