Oil on a board, 63 x 43 cm This evocative painting captures a hauntingly beautiful female figure, whose downcast gaze invites contemplation and introspection. The masterful use of texture creates a tangible presence, making the canvas come alive with every heavy stroke of cool blues, earthy greens, and touches of warm orange and brown. It’s a piece that combines the poise of classical portraits with the raw emotion of modern expressionism. The inclusion of a subtly depicted bottle and cup introduces a narrative element, suggesting a quiet moment of reflection. The artwork, encased in a simple white frame, stands out with its bold textures against the simplicity of the frame, creating a striking contrast that would enhance any space. This painting is not just a visual experience but a journey into the depth of human emotion, an investment that promises to deepen with time and contemplation. (!) The painting is in good condition but may have minor scratches and traces of age, as this item is over 50 years old. Biography of the artist: Jean-Marie Planque, born in Tournai, Belgium, in 1932, pursued Fine Art studies at various academies. After completing his courses, he chose to dedicate his free time to art rather than pursuing a commercial career. Influenced by Belgian Surrealist Marcel Moreau, whose text "The Planque Effect" elucidates his friend's work, Planque's art bears the mark of literary influences such as Louis-Ferdinand Céline, Louis Aragon, and even Léo Ferré. Despite facing illness and career setbacks, he continued his artistic journey until his passing in 1992. Since then, efforts have been made to showcase his work through exhibitions, including those in Tournai (1995) and Brussels (1994).
