Diesel’s new Pet lamp was made in collaboration with the Venetian lighting manufacturer Foscarini. It may seem like an odd fit for the denim-dominated fashion label, but Diesel has been producing furniture and lighting for two years.
“The lamp recalls something in the near past,” said Carlo Urbinati, a founder of Foscarini. “It looks like it has already led a life, like their jeans.”
For Foscarini, a company known for sleek, modern lighting by designers like Tom Dixon and Karim Rashid, the Pet lamp is clearly a departure. “We’re looking for a younger and different market,” Mr. Urbinati said. “We didn’t want to overlap the Foscarini collection.”
The lamp has a polycarbonate shade, a metal stem and a rubber base. It is about 16 inches high and comes in four colors (black, white, blue or fuchsia). It will be available for about $360 in December and can be ordered in advance from the Future Perfect, 55 Great Jones Street (Bowery), (212) 473-2500.
