Oil on board (the size of a frame: 60 x 50 cm ) This exquisite piece captures the delicate beauty of youth through the masterful strokes of post-Impressionist artistry. The subject, a young girl, is rendered with a soft, ethereal presence, her gentle gaze drawing you into a moment of pensive tranquility. Her golden curls are accentuated by a hat adorned with a burst of floral pink, hinting at the innocence and bloom of childhood. The artist’s use of light and shadow gives life to her visage, creating a sense of depth and reality that invites the viewer to ponder the story behind those introspective eyes. The painting is encased in a magnificent, ornate gold frame that speaks of timeless elegance, enhancing the artwork's allure and ensuring it commands attention wherever it is placed. This isn’t merely a painting; it’s a piece of history, a whisper of the past, rendered in lush, vibrant strokes that celebrate the beauty of post-impressionistic art. It’s a treasure waiting to be the centerpiece of a collection, offering not just a visual delight but a touchstone to the romantic era of art that continues to enchant and inspire. BIOGRAPHY: Trained at Saint-Luc in Brussels. Began his career in 1942. Favored still lifes, interiors, figures, nudes, beach scenes, and landscapes. Initially worked in dark tones dominated by browns, somewhat in the style of Pierre Paulus and Martin Bollé. During this period, he drew inspiration from the world of the circus and the life of workers. Around 1955, his work became more luminous. His style evolved towards Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, with some forays into Pointillism. According to the press: "He paints what fascinates him: a beautiful nude, landscapes whether inhabited or not, stripped-down still lifes with fruits, flowers or sometimes a mirror, and especially a large number of portraits. The women he paints are elegant and wear pretty hats, as signs of their social class. Even when he paints a peasant woman, he cannot bring himself to portray her in an ugly way. He cares too much about beauty for that. Throughout his life, he painted workers, rugged men at work, whom he depicted in their individuality. This solitary figure is not someone who paints groups. He loves the forest, the sea, and children, preferably those playing in working-class neighborhoods." Exhibited at the "Le Régent" Gallery in Brussels in 1961 and 1963. Represented from 1988 to 1997 by the "Abac" Gallery in Brussels and since 1999 by the "K Gallery" and "Gallery 31" also in Brussels. Retrospective exhibition at the municipal hall of Schaerbeek in 1998 and at the "K Gallery" in 2000. Exhibited in 2000 by the "Le Bercail" Gallery in Izel-sur-Semois. A significant monograph on his work was published in 2003 by Art in Belgium Editions, Ohain-Lasne ("Robert Colot 1927-1993" by Didier Pasternoster, preface by Constantin Chariot").
