Beautiful elegant Swedish design. Designer Yngve Ekstrom, leading design “Swedese”. This rare beautiful arm chair from the 1960s is a feast for the eyes. In very good condition considering its age, beautiful patient. The organic armrests are typical of midcentury Swedish design. Completely reupholstered in a duo tone taupe/beige top quality upholstery. Equipped with beautifully designed armrests. The frame is made of curved beech wood. Definitely an eye-catcher in the room with wonderful seating comfort. Dream away in style. Will this be showing off in your interior soon?
Ekström was born in the southern Swedish village of Hagafors, the son of a furniture manufacturer. His father died when he was not yet three years old. However, the wood carvings that his father had made in his spare time influenced Ekström's work later. At the age of thirteen he was already active in sawing, drawing, painting, making music and art history. He then specialized as an interior designer. In 1944, together with his brother Jerker, he founded the successful furniture factory ESE-möbler, which later became known as Swedese AB. The breakthrough came in 1953 when the furniture designs that Ekström had made were exhibited in the leading Stockholm department store Nordiska Komaniet. Two years later he showed a new furniture collection during the H55 exhibition in Helsingborg. Swedese furniture is shipped disassembled from scratch in a flat package and assembled by customers or retailers. The handy hexagonal Allen key that is the only tool required was an idea of his brother Jerker Ekström long before the furniture giant IKEA made it its trademark.
