A beautiful armchair by the Düsseldorf architect and designer Paul Schneider von Esleben, who had a lasting influence on post-war modernism in the 1950s and 1960s.
The chair was manufactured by Wilde & Spieth in Germany around 1955 and is in very good contemporary condition. The frame has a beautiful patina and the rattan has stood the test of time well. Despite the minimalist look of the chair, there are some details, such as the position of the back chair legs and the tapered backrest that doubles as a handle, which makes the chair a great design that was ahead of its time. Probably the most beautiful detail, however, are the handcrafted armrests made of solid teak.
