Maaseik , BelgiumView all items from this sellerThis, literally unique, Louis XV-style writing table was, in the Philippines (1990s), completely handmade from 'genuine tortoise shell' (shell of large sea turtles) by order of Marquis Collection (exclusive business in design and art) from Beverly Hills (Los Angeles USA) for one of their VIP clients 'a movie star in Hollywood'. We have email traffic with Marquis Collection confirming the origin and especially the destination of this exceptional, unique, handmade table. Also, this company has provided us with a written estimate of its current value. The future buyer/owner will of course receive this info.
So this fine writing table is completely handcrafted with genuine tortoise shell inlaid triangles, flat 'hammered', sanded and polished, 100% natural, without lacquer nor varnish. Each piece of tortoise shell is hand cut, worked and inlaid one by one. A gigantic time-consuming job, but the result is nothing short of stunning.
We acquired this gem from a former antique/art dealer, who in turn was able to snag the table in Brussels. If you link Brussels to Hollywood (movie star!), you only come up with one or two possible first owners (Jean-Claude Van Damme?), right!!! She is in very good condition. Dimensions table: H x L x W = 76 x 140 x 69.5 cm. Leg height = 61 cm. Interior dimensions drawers: Central = H x W x D = 7 x 40.5 x 43.5 cm, left + right = 3.5 x 20.5 x 43.5 cm. This exceptional piece "with a story" fits perfectly not only in a spacious hall, living room or bedroom but also in a commercial store, reception room, etc.
