This small chair, from the Dan people of the Ivory Coast, is carefully handcrafted and carved. Traditionally, such African chairs are given by women to men after initiation ceremonies, as a symbol of their acquired social status.
The chair has a distinctive shape, low to the ground with an upright back.
Made of hardwood, this chair has developed a beautiful patina through use and time. It shows signs of use and imperfections that highlight the age of the piece and should not be considered defects. This makes it a highly decorative object with a story.
