The Hono stool has its origins in the rediscovery of Shou Sugi Ban, an ancient Japanese burning technique that preserves wood by charring it. Inspired by the deep color tones, authentic texture and traditional use of this method to weatherproof wood, we adapted the technique for an environmentally friendly and sustainable application.
The stools undergo careful manual charring and are then finished with a non-toxic clear varnish. The Hono stools tell the story of this ancient method and highlight one of the earliest techniques for preserving wood.
