Information Thabur Art Deco Lamps
The Hague company THABUR made these ball lamps between 1920-1949. In 1925 the production company had only 5 employees. At the time, Thabur was located on the Annastraat in The Hague. Amsterdammer Jozeph Blik became director of Thabur in 1925, which ensured the company's rapid growth. By 1931, it employed 50 people. By 1938, more than 400 people were employed. Thabur glass is sturdy glass. As a result, these beautiful unique lamps are still in great condition after 100 years.
Thabur and the variety
Thabur lamps are recognizable by their often round shape where the glass is screwed into a screw edge. Traditionally, these Thabur screw surrounds were made of Bakelite. Thabur ceiling lamps with a bakelite rim are rarer and therefore more valuable, especially for people who value authenticity.
Art Deco ceiling lights come in a variety of colors, mostly pastel, but some harder darker colors are also common. The most common Thabur bulb lamps you will see in soft yellow, beige, mint green and pink. Blue glass is very rare.
The Thabur lamps refer in some designs to the earlier art nouveau period, before the art deco period. This can be seen in ball lamps with some more details that link to nature such as flower buds.An opening for a cord is made in the bakelite fixture.
