A small Ashanti Stools with a typical shape: with a rectangular, curved seat and a rectangular base plate. In between four straight supports, which carry sculptural decoration on the sides. In the middle a round, hollow column with openwork, geometric decoration. The Ashanti Stools was probably originally made of light-colored Wood . But when its owner dies, its stool (representing the 'seat of the soul') is often colored black. Such black Stools are now regarded as the 'seat of the ancestors', they are worshiped and sacrificed.
