Product description
Beautiful set of vintage dining chairs model ‘SE06’, designed by Martin Visser and produced by ’t Spectrum in the 1960s. During this period, Visser developed a series of innovative seating furniture in which simplicity, functionality, and honest material use were central. The SE06 was part of a series of dining chairs with different versions in cane, saddle leather, and upholstery, each based on the same clear design principles.
This set comes from Leusden, where the chairs originally formed a complete dining set together with a TE23 dining table by Claire Bataille and Paul Ibens.
It is special that the chairs are still equipped with their original black saddle leather upholstery, which has developed a beautiful, characteristic patina over the past decades. The leather shows warm color nuances and signs of wear that testify to years of use, but is still in good condition, without being dry or torn. Some connections of the metal frames have been re-welded in the past. These repairs are barely visible and do not detract from the appearance or sturdiness of the chairs.
The design is characterized by a slender, chrome-plated tubular frame with a subtle bend in the back legs. The saddle leather seat and backrest are directly attached to the frame, with the leather, which has become supple over the years, forming a beautiful contrast with the clean lines of the chrome-plated steel. The simple construction and the absence of superfluous details give the chairs a particularly open and airy character. The dark leather adds a certain robustness to this, without detracting from the understated design.
The SE06 is a characteristic example of Dutch design from the 1960s, in which Martin Visser's functional and minimalist design approach is clearly recognizable. The combination of the original saddle leather, the patina developed over the years, and the slender tubular frame makes this set a particularly authentic ensemble that still feels very modern today.
