The Nederlands Dans Theater is one of the leading dance companies in the world. Since its founding in 1959, it has focused on modern dance, but has never lost sight of classical ballet training. Unlike many other companies, the Nederlands Dans Theater has never made itself dependent on a choreographer and there is no distinction within the company between soloists and a corps de ballet. Every dancer must be able and willing to perform both solo and ensemble roles. Moreover, the number of men and women within the group is equal.
