This coffee table was bought by my parents probably in the 1960s in The Hague.

Poul Kjaerholm (1929-1980), a trained cabinetmaker who completed his studies at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts, had a particular interest in building materials; especially steel, which he considered a material that deserved the artistic respect usually accorded to wood.
Poul Kjaerholm started a collaboration with furniture manufacturer Ejvind Kold Christensen in 1955, and that collaboration continued for the rest of Kjaerholm's life, with the two families remaining close to this day.
In 1956, he designed the PK61 coffee table with white marble top for Ejvind Kold Christensen. This coffee table is a fine example of the playfulness of his designs. His designs are in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. Four basic elements are connected with industrial screws, creating a unique, distinguished look. The removable table top demonstrates Kjaerholm's recurring principle: using gravity to hold the elements in place.
This coffee table is still in good condition. The frame and top have age-related signs of use (no cracks in the top). This is an original E. Kold Christensen version with the EKC Denmark logo in the frame (see photo).This table has always been carefully handled so it is still in good condition. Considering its 60 years of use, there are a few light scratches and tarnishes in the top and the frame shows some stains.
