This poster of the theater performance Othello, performed in 1993-1994, was designed by Anthon Beeke. Beeke was a graphic designer and known for his controversial posters for Southern theater Globe, Toneelgroep Amsterdam, Holland Festival, the Theatercompagnie and the Art Rai. Beeke's client for his theater posters was Gerardjan Rijnders. In Beeke he found an ideal partner to shake up the world. And he did that. Many of his designs have been awarded. Two books of his posters have been published. The poster has never been hung and has been kept in a tube. and is shipped in a sturdy cardboard tube. The condition of the poster is very good. Up close you can see in some spots on the edge that it is not new. The poster was once folded, but that is also barely visible. The attached photos were taken with a good phone camera. The photos are sharp (see the texts), but the photo depicted on the poster was deliberately kept blurred by the designer. Depicted is the main character of this Shakespeare play, Othello, the Moor from Venice: a colored African prince who lives in a European society full of racial prejudices. He holds the rank of general in the Venetian army.
