Nico van der Stam (1925-2000) was best known for his pop photography from the 1960s and a little later. He has photographed for Hitweek, Music Express and Twen, among others, but also for record companies. Many of his photos appeared in Rijam's well-known school diary at the time. That is why the Maria Austria Institute, in collaboration with the Melkweg Gallery in Amsterdam, created the exhibition 'The Bintangs in your Rijam' in 2000. The exhibition featured a selection of national and international celebrities from David Bowie to Frank Zappa. In 2007 the publication Yesterday was published. In addition to (pop) artists, Nico photographed unexpected Amsterdammers on the street.
