I am Umberto Ragazzi. I was born in Murano and I grew up between the small island of Murano - the land of glass - and the main historical city of Venice. When I was a child, I would take fruits and vegetables from the islands of the lagoon to the Rialto market in Venice by rowboat. Hence, my life was divided between glass and rowing.
I started working glass in the early 1970s while I was training to be a rowing champion. I did it.
Meanwhile, I graduated from the University of Padua (ISEF - Superior Institute of Physical education). I taught physical education in the village of Murano and many contemporary glass masters have been my students.
But I always kept working glass at the same time. When I stopped my sports career, this became my work. Some of my creations have become a classic of Venetian glass lampworking. Now I have a laboratory in the Sestiere of Cannaregio, Venezia and a store near Piazza San Marco where I sell my creations and where you are welcomed (you will find it in Frezzeria, San Marco 1177)."
