Product description
Exceptional large Fat Lava floor vase by Bay Keramik, West Germany. Particularly noteworthy is the strong design similarity to the iconic designs by Bodo Mans for Bay Keramik from the late 1960s and 1970s. Characteristic of this are, in particular, the monumental vessel shape, the pronounced sculptural relief structure with hemispherical applications, and the intense, contrasting lava glaze in turquoise and red tones. The combination of a raw, almost volcanic-looking ceramic surface and luminous glaze also clearly corresponds to the design language of high-quality Bodo Mans models of that era. Comparable designs by the designer are now among the most sought-after examples of West German Fat Lava ceramics and are internationally sought after by collectors and interior designers. The strong contrast between the rough dark ceramic surface and the luminous glaze gives the vase an exceptional presence — both as a standalone piece on the floor and as a sculptural interior object. Marked on the underside: "BAY W. Germany" and model number "64 50". Condition: Very good vintage condition with beautiful original patina. There is a small chip on the rim of the top opening (see detailed photos). Due to the organic lava glaze and the strong texture, this is barely noticeable in the overall appearance.
