A screen print by Mattie Schilders with the title “Water, source of life”.
The art of Mattie Schilders is in line with the tradition of painting after nature. The performances draw the viewer directly into nature in order to stimulate all the senses to perceive. Unlike fine painters, Mattie Schilders does not aim for the most realistic representation, but rather focuses on depicting atmospheric impressions that he connects to the depiction.
The impressionistic style element is not emphatically present and is not an end in itself, but serves the experiences that nature can offer us. The light in the paintings is naturally dosed and enhances the intimate character of being in nature.
Mattie Schilders (1951) was educated at the Academy for Industrial Design Eindhoven and the Academy for Visual Education, Tilburg. He trained in drawing and painting. The talent for drawing still forms the basis for his paintings. For this artist first the line comes into the picture and then the color. A recently developed technique is based on photographs which, through composition and painting, is a new approach to the old theme of the pastoral.
