Up for sale is a bronze figure "The Reader" by the Dutch artist and sculptor Marian Kiewits (1944-2008) from the 1990s. The figure is sold in the original packaging with description. This bronze statuette was made using the "cire perdue" or "lost wax" technique. A type of bronze casting used in ancient Greece by famous sculptors such as Phidias, Scopas and Myron. The figure is first made out of wax. A conical wax plug is attached to the base of the figure. It is later used to fill in the liquid Bronze. The entire mold is then covered with a plaster of paris mixture. This mold is placed in an oven hot enough to melt and drain the wax. Bronze melted at a temperature of around 1000 degrees Celsius is poured into the resulting cavity. When the Bronze has cooled, the outer mold is shattered. The Bronze can now be cleaned and patinated. The production of bronze figures using the lost wax technique is always a one-off, as the original wax figure and mold are destroyed during the manufacturing process. The figure comes from a family estate.

Marian Kiewits (Rotterdam, 1944 - Breda, 2008) was a Dutch artist and sculptor.
She began her artistic career with ceramics and worked with figurative and partly abstract forms. As a result of several portrait commissions, she began creating more figurative work, including a portrait
by Queen Beatrix. Her designs became freer and more playful, which is why she finally switched to cast bronze. She has executed a small number of building projects, alongside many individual works such as portraits and animal, female and animal figures.
