Original Philips NB93 pendant lamp, designed by Louis Kalff in the Netherlands in 1956.
A model example of early Space Age design and Dutch Mid-Century Modern lighting. The wide geometric shade, characteristic perforated edge and transparent acrylic ring create the distinctive architectural appearance associated with Louis Kalff’s designs for Philips.
Despite being approximately 70 years old, the lamp has preserved the original character and style of its period and designer remarkably well. The metal shade remains straight and beautifully shaped, without dents, deformation or deep scratches.
Particularly valuable original details include:
– the original transparent acrylic ring,
– the original acrylic-ring mounting clips,
– the original gold and red Philips label.
After approximately 70 years, the original Philips logo has retained its beautiful gold and red colouring and remains an exceptional authentic detail from the period.
The surface displays a few small pinpoint traces and a light localised mark, most likely old paint residue from previous interior work. These marks are discreet, clearly shown in the photographs and do not affect the overall appearance of the lamp. The original Philips label has a small area of loss along one edge, while remaining recognisable and retaining its characteristic colours.
The lamp was working before removal. The cable has not been cut and was disconnected during dismantling. It appears to be a later replacement rather than the original 1950s cable.
