Léon Savelsberg was born on March 16, 1922 in Aachen. In 1936 Savelsberg moved from Aachen to Vaals, where he was seen as a reclusive man. He and his family lived there inconspicuously. Léon lived exclusively for art. According to his own words, he could not find a purpose in life in any profession other than being an artist.
