Design teak ice bucket with lid by Danish designer Jens Harald Quistgaard from 1958, model number 810; produced by the then American company Dansk Designs Denmark (abbreviated 'Dansk'). The ice bucket has a black plastic liner for ice and is in a very good vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. It is marked on the bottom with 'Dansk Design 810'. Dimensions: H = 49 cm, D(iam) = 24 cm. For your information: it is early 1954 when the Americans Martha and Ted Nierenberg go to Europe to look for a European household product that they can market in America. During a visit to the Museum of Arts and Crafts (Kunstindustrimuseet) in Copenhagen, they see a cutlery set made of teak wood and stainless steel, designed by the Danish artist-designer Jens Harald Quistgaard. The Nierenbergs track down Quistgaard and after a few conversations a first joint design/product of Quistgaard for the Nierenbergs is created: the Fjord cutlery. In the garage of their New York home, the Nierenbergs set up the new brand Dansk Designs Denmark, with Quistgaard as the first designer. The three of them quickly expand the range of the new company with Quistgaard's special designs for teak magazine racks, stools, stoneware casseroles, salt and pepper mills, cutlery with split wicker handles and... in 1958 this teak ice bucket.
