Jan des Bouvrie (1942-2020) Dutch architect, interior and product designer.
A famous statement of Jan des Bouvrie was: 'A piece of furniture must serve the person in the first place, it must be comfortable, you must feel good in it.' But also, "Creativity does not exist without passion. Both statements aptly express what Jan des Bouvrie understood by designing design furniture: linking optimal seating comfort to creative design that expresses a passion for pure design.
After completing his education at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, Jan des Bouvrie completed his apprenticeship in his parents' furniture business. Since then, Jan des Bouvrie has become an icon in the world of famous Dutch design furniture designers. His designs have won several awards, including the Cultuurprijs (1974), the Stijlprijs for his fauteuil 5470F (1990) and the Meubelprijs for the seating series 6430 (1999).
