Exquisite Vintage Rosenthal Porcelain Vase duo - Fritz von Stockmayer Design Elevate your home decor with this magnificent porcelain vase duo from the renowned Rosenthal, featuring a captivating branch decor. Crafted with precision and elegance, the higher vase stands approximately 24 cm tall, with dimensions measuring around 13 x 9 cm, while the bowl vase stands 19 cm tall. Fritz von Stockmayer, the creative genius behind this remarkable design, was a distinguished porcelain painter and ceramicist of his era. Before assuming the role of Art Director at Rosenthal in Selb in 1935, he lent his artistic talents to various prominent porcelain brands, including Arzberg, Schönwald, and Fürstenberg. It was during this period that von Stockmayer honed his distinctive style, marked by intricately hand-painted decorations and innovative glazing techniques. Notably, his work bore the indelible influence of his frequent journeys to the enchanting realms of Asia, a testament to his dedication to the craft. In remembrance of his tenure as the head of Rosenthal's Art Department from 1935 to 1940, the Rosenthal Porcelain AG paid homage to his legacy by publishing a commemorative book in 1942, aptly titled "The Porcelain Painter Fritz von Stockmayer." As a mark of authenticity and distinction, Fritz von Stockmayer personally signed his designs with his initials, FvS. In the shadowed annals of World War II and Nazi Germany, the story of Rosenthal Porcelain AG emerges as an intriguing and often controversial chapter. Founded in 1879 by Philipp Rosenthal, the company established itself as a symbol of luxury and fine craftsmanship in the world of porcelain. Philipp Rosenthal was the son of the porcelain dealer Abraham Rosenthal and Emilie Rosenthal, née Meyer. During the NS era, the Catholic Rosenthal was pushed out of the company because of his Jewish descent. To avoid damaging the reputation of the export-oriented company abroad, the authorities did not dare to take direct action against him after 1933. Nevertheless, Rosenthal had to resign as CEO in 1934. In 1950, his son Philip Rosenthal joined Rosenthal AG after his exile in England. However, the tumultuous years of Nazi rule in Germany brought profound changes to the company's identity and operation. Rosenthal Porcelain AG, like many other enterprises during this era, became embroiled in the politics of the time. Under Nazi rule, Rosenthal, like other German companies, was subjected to the pressures of conformity and collaboration. The company was compelled to produce items that adhered to the Nazi regime's ideology. This included items adorned with swastikas, as well as pieces that glorified the Third Reich. Fritz von Stockmayer's tenure as the head of Rosenthal's Art Department from 1935 to 1940 coincided with these challenging times. It's a period marked by the complex interplay of art, politics, and commerce. The commemorative book "The Porcelain Painter Fritz von Stockmayer" serves as a testament to both his artistic talents and the historical context in which he operated. Today, collectors and enthusiasts of Rosenthal porcelain navigate a delicate path, appreciating the craftsmanship while remaining mindful of the history that enshrouds it. It's a reminder that even in the world of art and luxury, history's threads can weave complex and nuanced narratives, ones that continue to intrigue and fascinate. These vintage Rosenthal vases, with their timeless beauty, stand as a tangible testament to the craftsmanship and artistry that transcends the tumultuous chapters of history. It's an opportunity to own a piece of the past, a conversation starter, and a work of art that prompts reflection on the intersections of creativity, commerce, and historical context. Both vases are in a very good vintage condition with reasonable wear consistent with age and usage.INFO Check out my profile for much more retro vases Questions are welcome and will be answered ASAP International buyers are welcome!
