Simple, but beautiful: this Danish lounge chair designed by Peter Hvidt & Orla Mølgaard in 1953 for France & Son. The low lounge chair has a so-called wooden 'sleigh frame' containing 2 loose cushions as a seat and backrest. These cushions with original mint or lime green upholstery are sprung for extra comfort. The frame is double marked with FF France & Son and "FF Caffrance" and the model is FD129.
About the designers: Peter Hvidt was trained as an architect and furniture maker in Copenhagen before World War II. Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen, trained at Aalborg Technical School before studying at the School of Arts and Crafts. From there, Hvidt trained under the expert eye of Kaare Klint at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. The two designers worked successfully together for 31 years, designing pieces for renowned Danish manufacturers such as Fritz Hansen, France & Son and Søborg Møbelfabrik. The partnership ended in 1975 when Hvidt retired.
The chair is still in good vintage condition, see the photos for details.
