This vase brings us to the renowned French glass artist Emile Gallé (1846-1904), who played a crucial role in the success of the Art Nouveau style. Emile Gallé was born in Nancy, where his father had a porcelain business. His father already started a workshop where faience was painted and where the young Emile started working. He later built his own faience workshop. And later he also started the production of glassware and furniture. As a designer, Gallé was particularly inspired by nature. It goes without saying that he revived with the Art Nouveau style that broke through from 1890 onwards. He translated his graceful compositions of branches and flowers into ceramics, glass and furniture. For this he developed his own techniques that subsequently inspired many other artists and entrepreneurs. He etched the vases, made up of several layers of colored glass, with acids that reveal the underlying layers.
