This Dutch Orginal Gispen armchair, model 1407 dates from 1954 and is a design by Wim Rietveld in collaboration with A.R. Cordemeyer. It is a variant of the model 1401. Whereas on the back of armchair 1401 a sheet steel back is visible, armchair 1407 has an upholstered back. Also, armchair 1407 is slightly larger and deeper. The chair is still enormously popular today and therefore a true design classic!
The armchair has a graphite black lacquered steel base, bakelite armrests and is complete with 4 floor caps. The seat and back have been completely reupholstered and upholstered in a trendy, strong orange-colored furniture fabric. Slight age-related user marks to the steel frame.
