Dominique Chan (1950) was born in Quimper to a French mother and Chinese father. Chan then grows up in Brittany and Paris. From 1968 to 1975 he traveled through Europe and learned the trade of street artist. After his wanderings, Chan eventually ends up in Amsterdam. There he found work as a draftsman at the Rijksmuseum and studied at the Rietveld Academy from 1980 to 1985. After completing his education, Chan makes three trips to China to study the Chinese language and culture. These travels are an important source of inspiration for his work. The encounter between European and Chinese visual language is also reflected in his artworks. His works are included in the collections of all major Dutch companies that invest in art.
