This is a beautiful art deco side table from the Amsterdam School from the 1920s/1940s. The round top and legs are made of solid oak. The intermediate piece is veneered with oak veneer. A piece of damaged veneer has been replaced on one of the sides. (See photo) The table shows characteristic accents from the Amsterdam School such as the stylized Coromandel pattern on the front and the dark/light play of the whole. As an extra decoration, three metal buttons are attached to both bottom corners of the front. The latter is reminiscent of the British 'Arts & Craft' style from the same era.
What is special for side tables from the beginning of the last century is that the round top of this table is a lid and can therefore be raised. A handy tray with compartments is visible under the lid. When you take this out, you will see that there is even more storage space. Without the container, the depth is 22 cm, the container itself is 5 cm high.
A beautiful side table that you can also use as a sewing table or for other storage items.
The table is not finished with wax, stain or lacquer. The damaged top layer of paint has been removed and treated with the durable and water-repellent Osmo oil. This is absorbed into the wood so that no circles are created. Maintenance: only apply a new layer of oil with a cloth twice a year.
The table had a few old woodworm holes. To be on the safe side, these have been treated by means of deep injection with woodworm killer.
The table is in good condition. See the pictures. The dark streaks on the round table top are not stains, but are in the structure of the wood.
