Empire is a top design bookcase designed by Swiss/Argentinian designer Alfredo Häberli for design label Quodes.
There is only 1 of this version: the veneer used resembles the wooden boards used in construction and adds something pure to the look. This cabinet was used during Quodes' launch in Milan.
The design has been exhibited, among others, at the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich (Switzerland) and the Kunsthalle in Cologne (Germany). Articles about Empire have been published worldwide and a French journalist from Le Figaro characterized Empire as "Design Pur"! Empire in brown.
This unique version would now have an estimated retail price of 6000 Euro. Because the cabinet has been used once, but the gluing is now repaired tgv handling and storage, now for EUR 2995.
Dimensions: 200 cm high, 45 cm wide and 35 cm deep.
Made of MDF with a veneer, see detail picture. The cabinet consists of 21 different panels with different angles, i.e. building and painting this cabinet requires a lot of craftsmanship.
Quote from the designer: "Again, I am fond of books. With Empire I wanted to create a very small bookshelf (or for other things), one that you have in a corridor, behind your bed, in a corner, placed just inconspicuous in a space. In the meantime, Empire is a vertical sculpture full of books."
The cabinet is being restored because between some panels the gluing has loosened due to slightly too rough storage/transportation. Also some small pieces damaged.
