Hand-signed etching on skimmed paper from 1989. Numbered 13/99, dated and titled. Image size 43.5 x 56 cm, paper size 50 x 65.5 cm. Alexis Gorodine (b. 1944, Malicone, France) trained at Atelier d'Urbanisme in Martinique, Atelier de Calevaert-Brun and Atelier Sauve-qui-Peut in Paris. He traveled and lived extensively in Africa, South America and North America. These countries and living in New York have profoundly shaped the artist's thinking. Gorodine pairs a mystical atmosphere with earthly warmth. The erosion of matter and the primal power of language and primitive signs are his themes. The artist gained world fame for his beautiful, austere etchings and stone prints, which are produced by the artist in exceptional quality. In simple planes and lines, Gorodine establishes recognizable forms, limiting his work to the essence of things. His work is included in major private collections and numerous museums, including: Brooklyn Museum, New York Musée des Beaux-Arts, Caracas Musée d'Art Moderne, Paris Museo de Arte Contemporaneo, Caracas Musée d'Art Moderne, Bogotà, Colombia Phillip Morris Collection, New York Metro North, New York Exxon Collection, USA Mobil Collection, USA Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris Musée d'Annecy, France
