Albert Hinrich Hussmann (* March 3, 1874 in Lüdingworth; † November 15, 1946 in Fürstenberg) was a German sculptor and painter. After his school years in Lüdingworth and Cuxhaven, Hussmann studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin. He soon specialized in the depiction of statues of horses and riders and was regularly represented at the major Berlin art exhibition from 1899. After completing his studies, Hussmann was offered a professorship at the Academy of Fine Arts and maintained his own studio in Berlin. In 1914, Kaiser Wilhelm II awarded him the Golden Medal for Art for one of his equestrian statues. During the National Socialist era, Hussmann was a member of the Reich Chamber of Fine Arts and exhibited animal sculptures at the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich in 1940, 1942 and 1943. Hussmann last lived in Berlin in Mariendorf, Ringstraße 86. After his Berlin studios were destroyed, he and his wife moved to Fürstenberg on the Weser in 1944. Until his death, he designed numerous porcelain figures for the Fürstenberg porcelain manufactory located there. The municipality of Fürstenberg honored Hussmann by naming a square with a small park after him. Wally Hussmann donated the horse statue "Thoroughbred", which had escaped destruction in Berlin, for the design of Hussmannplatz. Hussmann was one of the most important animal sculptors of the 20th century. Numerous works of art of lifelike animal replicas, mainly sculptures made of bronze and porcelain, formed his life's work. From 1909 to 1943 at the latest, he also regularly designed sculptures for the Rosenthal porcelain manufactory in Selb. The brown bronze statue, which we have had in our family for many years, is called Turnierkampf. It stands on a marble base. The statue is in very good condition and shows no signs of wear. We cannot say which year this work of art is from. Dimensions: W approx. 40 cm H approx. 37 cm D approx. 16 cm Weight 20 kg Blessed: Albert Hinchrich Hussmann
