Ad van Hassel was born in Roosendaal on April 26, 1953. He started painting in 1980. After years of creative wanderings, he started two exclusive galleries in the Amsterdam Sonesta and Krasnapolsky hotels in 1983. Best known of his are the tulip paintings.
In 1990, Van Hassel devoted himself to making screen prints of his paintings. He achieved such good quality that soon other artists had their work silkscreened by him. For example, he was Herman Brood's house printer for 12 years. Corneille, Jan Cremer, Rob Scholte, Shunyam, Peter Diem and many other artists also made frequent use of his expertise.
After the demise of Herman Brood and Corneille, he specialized in an entirely new technique. Using CNC laser cutting and milling of various plastics, he created insanely colored sculptures. Creating these works of art turned out to be a hit. The sculptures find their way to galleries at home and abroad.
