Thonet is one of the oldest furniture manufacturers in Germany and the world. The founder Michael Thonet moved his workshop, which had been in existence since 1819, from Boppard am Rhein to Vienna in 1842, where his company experienced its first heyday in the 19th century thanks to the bentwood furniture he invented. After the two world wars, Thonet achieved world fame, particularly with tubular steel furniture in the Bauhaus style. Alongside the bentwood furniture of the 19th century, the tubular steel furniture of the 1920s and 1930s, created by star designers such as Marcel Breuer and Mies van der Rohe, was one of the company's bestsellers. The Thonet cantilever chairs are characterized by their impressive, timeless design. The cantilever chairs are in very good condition.
