Product description
A characterful set of five Memento Chairs, designed by Jesse Sanderson for the Dutch design collective WDSTCK.
The Memento has been reduced to the essence of a chair: a slender black steel frame upholstered in two rectangular sections of thick cognac-colored saddle leather. No superfluous elements, but a clear construction in which material, proportions, and traditional craftsmanship take center stage.
Sanderson drew inspiration from the simplicity of a child's drawing and the functional wooden school chair from the 1950s. The result is a contemporary design with a minimalist, almost architectural appearance.
The ecologically tanned saddle leather is attached to the frame with leather straps, metal buckles, and rivets. The back, in particular, reveals the construction and gives the chairs their recognizable, artisanal character. Thanks to this system, the leather can be replaced or exchanged separately from the frame.
Natural scars, insect bites, veins, and color variations in the leather have been deliberately preserved. They tell something about the origin of the material and form an essential part of the design. With use, the cognac-colored leather develops an increasingly rich and personal patina.
The warm color and tactile feel of the saddle leather create a powerful contrast with the clean lines of the black steel. As a complete set of five, the chairs have a particularly strong and cohesive visual effect around a dining table, conference table, or in a gallery-style space.
The set is in neat, authentic condition. The leather displays a beautiful natural patina and light signs of wear that are consistent with the material and the design philosophy of WDSTCK. Details
