Very rare pair of black metal lounge chairs with rattan seatings, designed by the Spanish Gregorio Vicente Cortes and Luis Onsurbe. Sold in the Netherlands by the legendary department store Metz and Co in 1961.
This lounge chair is made of a black metal frame with a single curved rattan seating. It is very light weighted, only a couple of pounds and very minimalistic in its design. It has a beautiful line and almost vanishes in the surroundings with its thin frame and natural color.
The chairs are hard to find, because not many were sold and many others were probably thrown away because of the broken rattan. They are also very collectable pieces because furniture sold by Metz and Co is considered among the most high end Dutch Mid-century design. Other items sold by Metz & Co were for example from Gerrit Thomas Rietveld.
We completely restored the chairs. The black frame is newly spray-painted and the rattan seating was redone by a specialist. The chairs are therefor in very good condition.
