How Whoppah Curates Every Bag: What We Check, Reject and Cover
How every bag listing on Whoppah is checked before going live, what buyer protection and insured shipping cover, and what we honestly can't promise.

Every listing on Whoppah is checked by our curation team before it goes live. Not sampled, not spot-checked: every one. I started Whoppah in 2019 because I believed secondhand design deserved the same confidence as buying new, and seven years later that one rule is still the spine of the company. It's how we've handled more than 250,000 items listed across 16 markets and 1,000+ brands, and it's why the 1,031 bags live on the platform today, including 383 Chanel, our largest brand at 37% of branded bag stock, have all passed a human review before you ever saw them. This page explains what that review involves, what buyer protection and insured shipping actually cover, and, because trust pages that only list promises aren't trust pages, what we honestly cannot guarantee.
What happens between a seller hitting submit and a bag going live?
A seller photographs the bag, describes it, sets a price and submits. Then the listing waits, because nothing on Whoppah publishes itself. The curation team reviews it before it goes live, and for a designer bag that review runs on a simple principle: everything about the listing has to agree with itself.
The photos have to be sharp and complete enough to judge the bag: exterior, interior, corners, hardware, serial sticker or microchip area. The described era has to match what the details show, which for a Chanel means, for example, a serial sticker on a pre-2021 bag or a microchip plate from spring 2021 onward. The model name has to match the bag in the pictures, because sellers mix up names in both directions. The price has to sit within honest reach of the market. And the story has to hold: quilting, stitching, engraving and materials that look right for the claimed model and year.
If something doesn't hold, we don't publish. Either the listing goes back to the seller with questions, better photos, proof of details, corrections, or it's rejected outright.
Why do you reject listings?
The unglamorous list, in rough order of frequency: photos too poor to judge the item, descriptions that don't match what's shown, items that aren't the design quality Whoppah exists for, prices with no relationship to reality, and listings where the signals contradict each other in ways a seller can't or won't resolve. That last category is the one people ask about at parties. Some of those bags are counterfeit. Some are honest bags described wrongly. We don't always get to find out which, because our job isn't to win an argument with a seller, it's to make sure you never have to have that argument at all.
Rejection isn't personal and most sellers take it well, fix the listing, and pass on the second try. The ones who leave instead tell you the system is working.
"The curation team's veto beats everyone in the company, including me. If they say a bag doesn't list, it doesn't list, and I've never once overruled them."
Evelien Bunnik-Remmelts, co-founder and CEO of Whoppah
What does buyer protection actually cover?
Every purchase on Whoppah is covered by buyer protection. In plain terms: your money doesn't just fly off to a stranger with your fingers crossed. If the item that arrives isn't the item that was listed, wrong item, undisclosed damage, or something that fails the authenticity checks it should have passed, you contact our support team, we look at the case, and resolution follows our returns policy. Shipping has its own layer: insured shipping options are available, so the bag is covered while it travels, which matters exactly as much as everything else on this page the day a courier has a bad afternoon.
What I'd underline: protection isn't a favour we do you after a fight. It's the product. You're not buying from a stranger, you're buying through a marketplace that checked the listing, holds the process, and answers messages.
What can't you guarantee?
Here's the honest part. Curation is a human review of evidence, and I won't pretend it's infallible. Counterfeits get better every year, and a review of photos and details, however practised, can't carry the certainty of a laboratory. So no, I can't promise you that no bad item will ever slip through. Anyone who promises that is selling you the promise, not the process.
What I can promise: every listing is checked before it goes live, by people who do this all day and reject what doesn't hold up. Every purchase carries buyer protection. Insured shipping options exist for the in-between. And when something is wrong, there's a support team whose job is the fixing, not the deflecting: report it, show us photos, and the case gets handled per our returns policy, by humans, in any of the 6 languages the platform runs in. That combination, checks before, protection during, support after, is the whole design. It's why I'd rather explain our limits than inflate our claims.
Whoppah, founded in 2019, is a curated marketplace for secondhand design where every listing is checked by the curation team before it goes live, none publish automatically. Across its lifetime the platform has listed more than 250,000 items in 16 markets, covering 1,000+ brands, and as of 30 July 2026 it carries 1,031 live bags, of which 383 are Chanel, the platform's largest brand at 37% of branded bag stock. For designer bags, curation reviews photo completeness, era consistency such as Chanel's serial stickers used until 2021 and microchips from spring 2021, model naming, materials and price plausibility, and rejects or returns listings that don't hold together. Every purchase is covered by buyer protection, insured shipping options are available, and problems are handled by the support team under the returns policy rather than left between strangers.
Frequently asked questions
Does a human really review every listing on Whoppah?
Yes. Every listing is checked by the curation team before it goes live. Nothing publishes automatically, whatever the price of the item.
Can Whoppah guarantee a bag is authentic?
No one honestly can, and we won't pretend otherwise. What we do: check every listing before it goes live, reject what doesn't hold up, cover every purchase with buyer protection, and put support one message away. The authentication guide shows what you can check yourself.
What happens if my bag arrives and something is wrong?
Contact support with your order number and photos. We review the case and resolve it under our returns policy: that's what buyer protection is for.
Is shipping insured?
Insured shipping options are available on Whoppah, so the item is covered in transit. Choose them at checkout, especially on higher-value bags.
Why was my listing rejected?
Usually one of five reasons: photos too poor to judge, description not matching the item, quality below what buyers expect here, unrealistic pricing, or details that contradict each other. Fix the first four and resubmit; we'll look again.
Curation is the least visible thing we do and the most important. Judge it yourself: every one of the 1,031 bags live right now passed a human review first, 383 of them Chanel.
