Evelien Bunnik-Remmelts

Co-Founder & CEO, Whoppah

I started Whoppah in 2019 because every house I walked into had at least one beautiful piece of design furniture that the owners no longer used — and at the same time, friends of mine were paying full retail for the exact same designs, new. That mismatch is what we still wake up to fix every day.

Why Whoppah exists

Most secondhand platforms accept anything. Whoppah doesn't. Every piece that goes live is checked by our curation team for authenticity, brand attribution and condition — because the value of a Cassina sofa or a PH lamp evaporates the moment a buyer can't trust what they're looking at. Curation is the product.

Background

Before Whoppah I spent years inside Dutch design and marketplace operations. The two together shaped the company: design literacy on the curation side, marketplace mechanics on the platform side. Today we serve buyers and sellers across 16 European markets with a 22-person team in Amsterdam.

250,000+

Design items sold since 2019 — each one kept out of landfill.

16

European markets served, in six languages.

1,000+

Design brands curated — from Cassina to Vitra to Louis Poulsen.

What I write about

Most articles on Whoppah's blog and our icon pages carry my byline. The topics I keep coming back to:

  • Mid-Century Modern and why prices keep climbing
  • Dutch Design — from Rietveld to Hella Jongerius
  • How to authenticate iconic pieces (Eames, Cassina, Hermès)
  • The circular economy of design objects
  • Designer lighting — what's worth collecting
  • Why secondhand is the first choice
