Capron
Roger Capron was a famous 20th-century French ceramist and prolific artist, responsible for a multitude of ceramic pieces distinguished for their high quality and elegance. Capron was behind the return of the Golden Age of ceramics to Vallauris. A true visionary and passionate man, Capron perfected his art throughout his life, taking it to new heights. He modernised the traditional curves of Provençal pottery, developed mass production, turned his attention to decorative tiles and then to sculpture. Biography Born in France in 1922. He studied at the Ecole des Arts Appliqués in Paris, graduating in 1943. He developed a passion for ceramics and decided to open his own studio in Vallauris with Robert Picault and then Jean Derval. In 1952, Capron opened a factory employing around fifteen workers. His work, a combination of expertise and mass production, quickly gained recognition in the art world. He won numerous awards in Milan, Cannes and Brussels. In 1970, he also won the Grand Prix International de la Céramique! Unfortunately, the artist and company director closed his factory in 1982 as a result of the economic crisis. Capron then turned his attention to Raku sculpture and opened a workshop in the heart of Vallauris. His pieces were exhibited in numerous galleries around the world, and are now particularly sought-after!
