Grete Jalk Grete Jalk is without doubt one of the greatest Danish designers of the 20th century. Driven by a desire to meet the needs of as many people as possible, she designed simple, economical furniture ranges. The shapes and curves of these heterogeneous pieces are sober, clear and timeless! [caption id="attachment4925" align="aligncenter" width="372"] G J chair © Tomislav Medak[/caption] Biography Grete Jalk was born in 1920 in Copenhagen. She studied at the School of Design for Women from 1940 to 1943. She continued and completed her studies at the School of Design in 1946 after attending the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. She founded her own design studio in 1953. Success and recognition soon came knocking at her door; in 1963 she won 1st prize in a competition organised by The Daily Mirror with two laminated armchairs! Alongside her design career, Jalk edited the interior design magazine Mobilia Mobilia with Gunnar Bratvold from 1956 to 1974. His articles can be found compiled in a four-volume work - a veritable encyclopaedia! It is reputed to be a particularly comprehensive source of information. Grete Jalk has left an indelible mark on the history of design thanks to her impressive knowledge and exceptional creations.
