Gae Aulenti is an Italian designer, stylist and architect of international renown. A leading figure in twentieth-century design and architecture, she is responsible for such incredible projects as the refurbishment of the Musée d'Orsay (1980-1986) and the Centre Pompidou (1982-1985). In 1954, she graduated in architecture after studying at the Milan Polytechnic. From then on, she worked as a graphic designer and editor for the magazine Casabella-continuità until 1965. At the same time, she designed various ranges of furniture for major publishers such as Knoll and Artemide. In 1965, Aulenti created one of the biggest bestsellers in design: the "Pipistrello" lamp. Passionate about her profession and keen to share her knowledge, she lectures at numerous universities around the world (Italy, Sweden, the United States, etc.). She enjoys working on a wide range of projects, which is why she began designing private and public spaces in 1976, the Palacio Nacional in Barcelona being a perfect example. In 1987, François Mitterrand decorated her with the Légion d'honneur. Even today, Gae Aulenti is considered a design genius.
