Eero Saarinen is an American designer of Finnish origin. He has designed many successful pieces of designer furniture for Knoll, and is one of the most prolific designers of the 20th century. He is best known for his unique proposals for each design or architectural project, which are always accurate and original. He is particularly well known to the general public for having designed the tulip chair, the tulip table and the conference chair, best-sellers in 50s design furniture. He also designed the Grasshopper armchair (1946) and the Womb armchair (1948). > Discover all Eero Saarinen furniture for sale on Design Market Discover all Eero Saarinen furniture for sale on Design Market Biography Biography Eero Saarinen was born in 1910 in Kirkkonumi, Finland. His parents emigrated to the United States in 1923, to Detroit, Michigan. In 1929, he went to Paris to study sculpture at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. He returned to the United States in 1931 to study Architecture at Yale University. He graduated in 1934, and received a scholarship that enabled him to travel in Europe for a few years. In 1937, he taught at Cranbrrok University - where his father Eliel Saarinen was already President - in the company of Charles Eames , with whom he designed a series of designer furniture for the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). He subsequently produced numerous pieces of designer furniture (chairs, tables, armchairs, etc.) for the manufacturer Knoll International, which have remained as classic icons of 20th-century design.
