Product description
The Vitra Eames EA 219 is an Office chairs with a high backrest, designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1969 as part of the Soft Pad Group. Description • Design & Structure: Features a high backrest with integrated neck support, a base of polished or chromed aluminum, and a tilt mechanism adjustable according to body weight. • Upholstery: Stitched cushions covered with high-quality black leather, providing a luxurious yet slender profile. The history behind its production in Norway: In the 1960s and 70s, the Swiss company Vitra and the American manufacturer Herman Miller sometimes granted licenses or production orders to local European manufacturers to circumvent high import tariffs. In Scandinavia, the Norwegian manufacturer Ring Møbelfabrikk was licensed to produce the Eames Aluminum and Soft Pad series (including the EA 219 model) for the local market. Impact on value & price These Norwegian-produced models are highly sought after by collectors because they are relatively rare compared to standard Vitra productions. There are a few differences: • The brand name: Technically, this chair should be referred to as an Eames by Ring Møbelfabrikk chair rather than a Vitra chair, although the design is fully authentic.
