Product description
Beautiful vintage wing armchair from the 1960s, attributed to Louis van Teeffelen and possibly designed for Topform. The original model name and manufacturer are not known with certainty, but the armchair is regularly referred to as the 'Pinguin'. The distinct organic shapes and flowing lines show clear similarities with Van Teeffelen's characteristic design language.
This piece comes from Maastricht and had been owned by the original owners since the 1960s, who bought the chair together as part of their wedding trousseau. At the time, it was an expensive armchair, as the lady of the house recounted.
This armchair has been fully restored, while retaining its original design. The teak frame has been sanded, nourished, and finished with a protective semi-matte finish, bringing out the warm color and wood grain beautifully. Subtle signs of wear have been deliberately preserved and tell something about the armchair's long history.
The seat and backrest are fitted with new foam and re-upholstered with a high-quality ocher yellow wool fabric. The warm color of the upholstery creates a beautiful contrast with the teak and gives the armchair a distinct look, with a subtle nod to the 1960s.
The design is characterized by the flowing, curved lines of the seat and backrest. The wide armrests seamlessly extend into these, giving the armchair its recognizable, enveloping shape. A comfortable and distinctive piece of Dutch design, with clear influences from Scandinavian aesthetics and at the same time unmistakably the hand of Louis van Teeffelen.
