Product description
A charming small blue and white glazed earthenware figurative trinket, made around and inspired by traditional Dutch imagery. The composition depicts a young woman in regional costume sitting on the edge of a boat, in front of a large, raised sail. The figurine is modeled in relief with numerous details in the clothing, headdress, apron, and clogs. The sail gives the piece a slender and unexpected silhouette. Its undulating lines accompany the figure and animate this small maritime scene. The luminous white interacts with different shades of blue, from the pale blue of the hull to the deep blue of the costume. This palette is reminiscent of famous Dutch ceramics, without allowing attribution to a Delft manufacturer. The hull features a small opening that can accommodate a flower or a few slender stems. The object remains, above all, a decorative trinket, characteristic of the fanciful figurative ceramics produced in the mid-20th century. The reverse bears the number 2935 molded into the material, corresponding to a model reference. No manufacturer's mark is visible. Light falls on the glossy enamel, highlighting the folds of the costume and revealing the delicate variations of blue. This small scene retains all the popular charm of old maritime souvenirs.
