Product description
Table lamp by Gino Vistosi
Impressive globe lamp by Vistosi, Italy 1970. Murano glass hand blown by Vistosi masters. Vistosi lamps are created by a team of renowned international designers. Their products are considered to be of the best quality available in the world. Every detail of their lamps is masterfully created by experts who strive for nothing less than the best.
History . . .
In 1791 Gio-Batta Vistosi was appointed Gastaldo dell'Arte - head of the glassmakers' guild - and became the delegate of the owners of the Murano furnaces.
The decline of the Republic of Venice and the revolts among the workers marked a long dark period in the production of artistic glass. During this century many furnaces closed permanently and art seemed to vanish. Only in 1945 Guglielmo Vistosi opened a new furnace in Murano. During the 1950s, under the guidance of Guglielmo's nephews, Vistosi production began to focus on lighting items, achieving considerable success. The decisive move towards success was to link the production to the most famous designers of the time such as Gae Aulenti, Ettore Sottsass, Adalberto Dal Lago, etc. In 1989 Moretti, a Murano entrepreneur with long experience in the glass sector, acquired the prestigious brand, giving life to Vetreria Vistosi. To this day, highly skilled craftsmen create the most exciting glass lamps in the world.
Vistosi glass. . .
Vistosi blown glass is produced with a unique blend. Once the sodium has been reduced to a minimum quantity, the glass seems to acquire the characteristics of steel: it is resistant and does not become opaque with the passage of time. The craftsmanship of each individual piece is revealed by imperceptible differences on the surface.
This particular glass globe is complex to make due to its size and the use of two types of glass. Complex glass designs can require up to 7 experts to make.
The glass globe is hand marked "Vistosi". A unique opportunity to own a true Vistosi masterpiece! Some small chips around the opening of the globe (which is invisible when the globe is placed on its base). Fully functional.
