The Serpente table lamp, designed by Elio Martinelli for Martinelli Luce, is an iconic piece of Italian design from the 1960s. This particular example stands out due to its distinctive swivel arm, which allows the shade to be positioned in various ways, offering both functional and aesthetic versatility.
Crafted from white metal and plastic, the lamp showcases the innovative material combinations typical of the Space Age era. The large, dome-shaped shade provides a soft, diffuse light distribution, ideal for mood lighting. The lamp is equipped with a black cord switch and a standard plug, which shows signs of use (see photo). It is in proper working order.
The lamp is in a condition consistent with its age and use, while retaining its original character. The construction is fully functional and the swivel arm works properly.
This table lamp looks excellent in a Mid-Century Modern or eclectic interior. Placed on a sideboard, desk, or side table, the Serpente functions not only as a light source but also as a sculptural object that enriches the space.
