Product description
This hand-woven oriental Hamadan rug was made in Iran during the 1960s. Traditionally woven flat and dyed using naturally derived dyes, the rug features an original pattern inspired by the traditional rugs of the Fars or Lori regions. Its vibrant colors—dominant shades of red, navy blue, orange, and white—delight the eye. The rich geometric composition with leaf and rosette motifs makes it unique and eye-catching. This rug is perfect for boho, vintage, ethno, or modern interiors as a pop of color. It can serve both functional and decorative purposes, for example, as a wall decoration. Hamadan rugs are traditionally hand-woven rugs from the Hamadan region in western Iran. This region is one of the oldest centers of rug weaving in the world and encompasses numerous villages and towns, each with its own unique patterns and styles. The various types of rugs produced in Iran are most often named after the regions and towns where they are produced, such as Hamadan, Kerman, or Shiraz, or after the nomadic tribes involved in their production. They most often feature central medallions, geometric motifs, and floral motifs. These patterns are usually symmetrical. Some elements are more abstract, while others are inspired by traditional Persian motifs. Typical colors used in Hamadan rugs include reds, navy blues, shades of blue, brown, beige, and ivory. The colors are usually vibrant and intense, obtained from natural plant and mineral dyes. The rugs are hand-woven from wool, often on a cotton warp, making them durable and resistant to wear. These rugs typically have a medium knot density, giving them a solid structure. The asymmetrical Persian knot is often used, allowing for greater precision and detail in the pattern. Hamadan rugs combine traditional craftsmanship with functionality, serving as both a beautiful decorative element and a practical addition to any interior. They are a testament to the rich history and culture of the region from which they originate. Hamadan rugs are popular in both local and international markets, valued for their durability, aesthetic appeal, and diverse designs. The traditional art of Persian rug weaving is a national cultural heritage of Iran. In 2010, the art of weaving rugs from Fars and Kashan were added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. They are often chosen for both traditional and modern interiors. The rug is in original vintage condition. It has signs of wear due to age, fabric loss, abrasions and damage to the fleece. The rug will be professionally cleaned and ready for use before shipping. The rug has an abrash effect, a phenomenon found in traditional, hand-knotted rugs, characterized by subtle variations in shades of the same color within a single weft. This is most common in Persian, Turkish, Caucasian, and other handmade rugs from natural materials such as wool or silk. Color variations can result from the use of natural dyes, which don't always produce a uniform result, especially if the wool was dyed in different batches or at different times. As the wool ages, it can change color to varying degrees, which also contributes to the abrasive effect. Although this effect could be perceived as an imperfection, it is often appreciated by collectors and lovers of traditional rugs, as it adds unique character, authenticity, and value to the rug. The colors of the products shown in the photos may differ slightly from the actual ones. This is due to individual monitor settings and lighting conditions – the photos were taken in artificial light, which may affect the perception of colors. However, we strive to ensure that the photos reflect the actual appearance of the product as faithfully as possible. The offer may include photos of item in the living space, but these are for illustrative purposes only.

The rug is in original vintage condition. It has signs of wear due to age, fabric loss, abrasions and damage to the fleece.
