Beautiful vintage dining set, designed by Pierre Mazairac and produced by Pastoe in the 1970s. The set consists of the dining table model ‘TM6110’ and six matching chairs model ‘SM0301’. A design characteristic of Dutch design of the 1970s: minimalist, functional, and strong in its simplicity.
This set originates from Haarlem and has been in the dining room of the original owners since the 1970s. The set only recently became available due to the clearance of the home.
The table features an anodized aluminum frame with a black Formica top featuring a subtle relief texture. A durable and particularly solid combination of materials. The chairs feature the same anodized aluminum frames, combined with black lacquered plywood seats and backrests. The contrast between the light aluminum and the black surfaces gives the set a powerful, almost graphic appearance.
What makes this set so special is the way Pierre Mazairac managed to create a design that is instantly recognizable using relatively simple materials. The flowing lines of the table and chairs connect seamlessly, making everything feel like a single unit.
The rounded corners of the aluminium frames break up the clean lines of the tabletop, while the visible aluminium connections in the backrests add a playful detail. It is precisely these subtle elements that give the set its charm and ensure the design remains light and accessible.
Even today, this Pastoe set still looks strikingly modern. That is what makes Pierre Mazairac's designs so strong: they do not revolve around trends, but around form, function, and material. A beautiful and increasingly rare example of Dutch design from the seventies that fits effortlessly into both minimalist and eclectic interiors.
